The level of degradation in the paper sensor caused by exposure to the storage or exhibition material is assessed by ion chromatography (IC) with a focus on the identification of paper degradation products using gas chromatography-mass spectroscopy.
2013 LC Project (2013 American Chemical Society Project SEED Scholar):
Evaluated degraded and non-degraded magnetic tapes to assess a non-destructive system developed at the Library to identify degraded tapes without playback. Microscopically examined tapes to determine whether observable differences in tape surface could correlate to state of degradation.
