Mass spectrometry provides information about the mass and structure of molecules. The JEOL JMS-Accu TOF mass spectrometer with Direct Analysis in Real Time (DART) provides for the non-invasive analysis of constituents and contaminants present on collection items and in their storage environments.
Applications:
- detect the presence of ‘vinegar syndrome’ in acetate film collections
- monitor paper aging by characterizing volatile organic compounds released
- characterize organically-based dyes and inks
