Gas chromatography with flame ionization detection allows for quantitative analysis of individual components present in complex mixtures. Experimental methods are being developed to study collection materials.

Applications:

  • determining volatile organics present in collection storage environments
  • determining volatile human-derived contaminants present on collection objects
  • developing methods for forensic identifications of colorants and substrates
