The Library of Congress is home to more than 1.9 million film, television, and video items. With a collection ranging from motion pictures made in the 1890s to today's TV programs, the Library's holdings are an unparalled record of American and international creativity in moving images.
The collection includes approximately 140,000 reels of nitrate film. In addition we hold safety film, videotapes, discs, videogames, and born digital collections. We have more than one million photographs, copyright descriptive material, press books, posters, glass slides, and lobby cards.
