Summary

  • Hand-colored print shows map of the battlefield between the Lys and Scheldt rivers near Oudenarde in Belgium. Print also shows the location of numerous small villages in the region and location of the formations of troops to be engaged in the battle. Inset box in lower right hand corner of the print identified list of number and rank of prisoners captured during the battle. The Battle of Oudenarde was fought on July 11, 1708 between the allied forces of Great Britain and the Dutch Republic who fought and won against French forces in this important battle in the War of the Spanish Succession.
