- In conjunction with the landmark exhibit The Civil War in America, the Library presented Harvard University President Drew Gilpin Faust in conversation with filmmaker Ric Burns for this commemoration of the Civil War Sesquicentennial. Sen. Elizabeth Warren introduced the event, which explored how death in the Civil War permanently transformed the character of American society. The program featured a clip from the PBS documentary "Death and the Civil War," produced by Burns and based upon Faust's book "This Republic of Suffering: Death and the American Civil War." Excerpt from "Death and the Civil War," written & directed by Ric Burns, used by permission of Steeplechase Films.
