About this Item

Title

  • Aritmetica.

Summary

  • Calandri's Arithmetica is the first Italian arithmetic book to contain illustrations that illuminate mathematical problems, as well as being the first work to discuss long division. The illustrations depicting the hand counting technique are cleverly designed and convey motion. The remainder of the woodcuts in this volume illustrate the practical application of mathematical problems, especially those of use to builders, merchants, and farmers.
