  • -  Provenance: Sir Thomas Phillipps and R. L. Harmsworth collections. This manuscript traces the history of the exploratory expedition which was organized under Pedro de Ursúa, down the Amazon (Marañon) River from Peru. Ursúa arrived in Peru in 1558 after a career of several years in New Granada and Panama. He gained the support of Viceroy Cañete for his plan to search for the fabled wealth of the kingdom of El Dorado.
