ArticleArtwork, Inserts, and Conserving the Journals The two volumes of the journal of William Speiden, Jr., contain nearly fifty illustrations. These include pencil or ink drawings by Speiden and other shipmates and small Chinese pith paintings collected on the voyage. Speiden also inserted copies of selected documents in his journal.
