Federal Librarian of the Year

Purpose

To recognize and commend active and innovative leadership and professionalism in the promotion and development of library and information services during Fiscal Year 2025 by a federal librarian or information professional.

Description

The award consists of a plaque and a certificate for the individual. FEDLINK will also cover the cost of travel for the recipient and one supervisor to attend the annual FEDLINK Awards Celebration held at the Library of Congress in Washington D.C., where the award will be presented.* A separate plaque, which recognizes each year's recipients, will be displayed at the FEDLINK offices at the Library of Congress.

Eligibility

The recipient must be a federal employee and a practicing librarian or information professional in a federal library or information center. (Note: This is not intended to be a valedictory award. Award recipients from fiscal years 2022, 2023, and 2024 are not eligible.)

Nomination packet

Nomination Form: Federal Librarian of the Year (download PDF)

Must be prepared by the nominee or nominator; nominator must be a federal employee.

Selection Criteria statements (covering achievements during Fiscal Year 2025) Cite specific examples and any supporting quantifiable data from Fiscal Year 2025 only:

  1. Mission Support: Describe promotion and development of library and information services in support of the organization�s mission in Fiscal Year 2025. (40 points)
  2. Complete three (3) Professional Competency Statements based upon the Competencies for Federal Librarians prepared by the FEDLINK Human Resources Working Group. (20 points each)

Supporting materials that relate to the accomplishments of Fiscal Year 2025 are encouraged. See the nomination form for details.

Submission: All nominations must be emailed no later than Monday, December 22, 2025. Please email nominations to FEDLINK at [email protected]. If a nominator does not receive confirmation of the nomination in one week, please contact FEDLINK at [email protected].

Selection Process

The FEDLINK Awards Working Group will receive and screen applications and submit a list of finalists to the FEDLINK Executive Board. The FEDLINK Executive Board will make the final selection and announce the winners in the Spring of 2026.
