About The Quincy New Era (Quincy, Fla.) 1???-19??
The Quincy New Era was published in Quincy, Florida in the late nineteenth and early twentieth century. In 1892 it was acquired by W.W. Keep, merged with the Quincy Herald, and renamed the Quincy Florida herald. At some point before May 11, 1900 the Quincy New Era was revitalized and published under its former name.
Quincy was and remains the county seat of Gadsden County, a rural county in the Florida panhandle along the Florida-Georgia border, most well-known at the turn of the twentieth century for growing shade tobacco. Quincy is located approximately twenty-five miles from the Florida state capital, Tallahassee. The Quincy New Era included legislative news from Tallahassee and information on statewide initiatives. Most of the content in the May 11, 1900 issue covers national and international news.
